Pulse editor Nigel Praities was named ‘Editor of the Year’ at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards last night.
Winner in the business magazine category, Nigel was recognised by the judges for a editing a magazine that ‘repeatedly unearths exclusive stories that go on to set the national news agenda’. The awards are judged by fellow editors and are open to all magazines in the UK.
The win comes after several Pulse stories have made the national news, with investigations into personal health budgets, referral incentive schemes and the number of practices facing closure all receiving prominent newspaper and television coverage. Nigel has been interviewed on BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 4, BBC Five Live, ITV news and Sky news this year and Pulse stories have appeared on the front page of national newspapers 15 times since January.
The award win comes after Pulse reporter Alex Matthews-King was awarded the ‘Story of the Year’ at the Medical Journalists’ Association awards in July. At the same awards, the Pulse Toolkit smartphone app was named Digital innovation of the Year.
