Pulse’s ‘IamHadiza’ cover wins major award

Pulse’s ‘IamHadiza’ cover, which featured a mosaic of the faces of more than 140 GPs showing support for Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba, won the prestigious cover of the year award at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards last night.

The mosaic of faces create the image of Dr Bawa-Garba, the junior doctor who was struck off the GMC register and charged with manslaughter after the death of a 6-year-old boy.

GPs gave their permission for Pulse to use their portrait picture on the front cover to show their support for Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba and to illustrate the concern that all doctors have about the implications of the case.

Many readers also submitted their stories about when they made mistakes due to systemic pressures.

Pulse columnist Dr Shaba Nabi was also nominated as columnist of the year at the awards in London last night.
