Revalidation’s case is made

Dr Una Coales asks if the GMC has fully understood the consequences of revalidation

The 940 responses to our consultation have helped us understand the potential impact of revalidation and how we can make sure it can work best for individual doctors.

Revalidation must not be bureaucratic or take GPs away from patients: it must add value for both. The case for enabling doctors to provide ongoing assurance of competence and fitness to practise is overwhelming and, as the Secretary of State has said, it is what the public expects. It is now time to get on with it and in an effective manner.

Reponse to: Can we afford revalidation?
