On the Thursday, the DH's national director for improvement and efficiency, Jim Easton, welcomed a report it had commissioned recommending use of GP call centres as ‘just one example of how the service is taking the lead in identifying where it can make best use of
resources'.
Hop forward to Friday morning, 150 outraged GP comments on Pulse's website later, and the DH was insisting it was not going ahead with the proposals.
‘It seems as though that's what GPs want,' a DH spokesperson admitted, a touch sheepishly.
