The call a spade a spade award

Not for NHS Lambeth the insidious managerial speak of ‘spending priorities' and ‘rationalisation'.

In November, a manager at the PCT emailed GPs with the words: ‘Due to Government cuts, the chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening for 15- to 24-year-olds service level agreement has been axed.'

And just in case GPs were left in doubt about where the PCT stood: ‘Do still continue to offer the screening as Lambeth still has the highest level of people with chlamydia in England.'

Perhaps NHS Lambeth could learn something from the DH in the art of spin. It insisted: ‘We are not cutting the National Chlamydia Screening Programme – we are improving it.'
