The Westminster Blue Sky Thinking Award

David Tredinnick

David Tredinnick MP wins this one for suggesting GPs may benefit from using astrology to make health services more efficient and reduce public spend. The House of Commons health committee member was accused by Pulse readers of ‘spouting drivel’ after saying he believed the ancient practice could ‘certainly’ be useful in helping patients understand what type of ailments they may be prone to, based on the position of the planets at the time they were born.

Runner-up The Department for Education, for not consulting any GP representative organisations before inserting a clause into the Children and Families Act 2014 that schools should contact practices to draw up ‘healthcare plans’ for pupils with a health condition.
