Thursday 31 October, Cardiff: Introduction level: Tools for the identification of survivors of torture and trafficking

Remedy improves the capability of frontline staff to work with survivors of gross human rights violations, such as torture, trafficking, rape, persecution and detention.

This introduction level course is designed for health and social care professionals who are - or suspect they may be - working with survivors of torture and trafficking. Delegates can expect to gain understanding about the nature of torture and trafficking and to become familiar with basic tools that can be used to recognise the signs of torture and trafficking in their patients.

Learning Aims [tbc]: By the end of the course delegates should be able to:

·       Define torture and trafficking

·       Describe basic guidance on identification of indicators of torture and trafficking

·       Discuss the right to rehabilitation for survivors of torture and trafficking

·       Explain the basic aspects of the asylum and immigration system and its implications for healthcare workers treating survivors of torture and trafficking

·       Discuss approaches to working with torture and trafficking in a clinical setting
