The Department of Health has announced two further appointments to the Government's ministerial health team - both with controversial stances on health policy.
Mr Burstow has been a member of the House of Commons Health Select Committee since July 2005 and is co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Primary Care and Public Health.
He has recently led a campaign to save services at his local St Helier Hospital and has called for the publication of a controversial McKinsey report used as the basis for NHS London's plans to shift the majority of hospital care into the community.
Mr Burns was a member of the House of Commons Health Select Committee from 1999 to 2005 and from 2001 to 2005, he was a Shadow Minister for Health. Since December 2005, he has been an Opposition Whip. He has been a vocal critic of polyclinics.
Conservative MP for south Cambridgeshire Andrew Lansley will serve as secretary of state for health.
