We’ll get no sympathy from the public

I agree with Dr Peter Holden (‘GP pay slumps as one in four take 10% cut', www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news). There isn't any sympathy among the general public for pay rises for ‘wealthy' GPs, when lots of ordinary folk in the public sector are worried about keeping their own jobs and are facing no pay rise themselves.

As a medical tribe we did very well under the last Labour government – now the Tories are back in we will drift back down the medical pecking order compared with our hospital-employed colleagues. Time for a career change?
