NHS England holding seminars on £15m practice pharmacists fund

NHS managers are holding a series of webinars and events to tell practices how to bid for a share of the £15m fund to help cover the cost of recruiting clinical pharmacists.

NHS England said that it that applications for funding can be submitted between Friday 11 September 2015 and Thursday 17 September.

Webinars are taking place on the 12th and 26th of August, while the live events – which will give GPs the opportunity to ask questions of a live panel – are scheduled for 20 August in Leeds and 2 September in Manchester.

The scheme was launched in early July following from health secretary Jeremy Hunt’s announcement of a ‘new deal’ for GPs, in which the Government is looking to introduce 5,000 staff – including pharmacists, physician associates and practise nurses – into general practice by 2020.

As part of the three-year pilot – which will see 300 pharmacists employed directly by practices – NHS England has said it will fund 60% of the costs of pharmacists to the practices for the first 12 months of employment, dropping to 40% in the second year and 20% in the third year.
