32. Dr Kailash Chand

DOWN 5

Dr Kailash Chand worked for 25 years as a GP in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, before becoming chair of NHS Tameside and Glossop in 2009.

He has become well known for his dogged campaigning against the Government's health reforms, and this year won both plaudits and headlines for forcing a House of Commons debate after his Drop the Bill petition attracted more than 170,000 signatories.

The debate did not stop the NHS reforms, but it gave him plenty of support as he rejoined BMA Council, and he has recently been elected BMA deputy chair, promising to give the BMA a 'united voice' over the NHS reforms and revalidation.
