Dr Ann McPherson came to prominence as author of the best-selling novel Confessions of a Teenage Health Freak.
She runs the award-winning website healthtalkonline.org, a database of patient experiences covering over 40 different illnesses and health conditions, gathered through in-depth qualitative research.
She has also become a high-profile campaigner in favour of assisted dying since being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and has lobbied the Government arguing for a change in the law.
