Dr Jones will be sorely missed in Wales when she stands down as BMA Wales GP Committee chair. This year the Swansea GP has stood firm on behalf of all Welsh GPs to ensure their voices were represented in what she calls a ‘long, arduous and difficult contract reform and negotiation process’.
Dr Jones reflects on her biggest achievements and says ‘seeing the profession standing united in voice’ in response to policy decisions being implemented in Wales as a result of GPC intervention.
She says: ‘I completed my term of office with head held high despite some rather significant unacceptable behaviours from various parties within and outside of the profession,’ adding that her successor definitely needs the four P’s in order to survive the role: passion, perseverance, positivity and personal resilience.
It’s not been smooth sailing in her last year. Dr Jones and the GPC had to contend with the Government planning the cut the global sum by £11m to deliver the state-backed indemnity scheme – a move she said was ‘absolutely ridiculous.’
Why influential: Waves the flag for all Welsh GPs
What others say: ‘Passionate, loving and not scared of standing up to be counted.’
