Overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by Veale and Willson

This book is a self-help guide for individuals suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It is also aimed at professionals, and friends and families of sufferers as a means of educating and guiding them into possible ways to offer help and support.

This book is presented in easy and jargon free language. It gives the reader a clear explanation and insight into the condition, and by using examples of true life stories throughout the book, it helps in normalising the disorder for the reader.

It is a self-help guide and thereby uses clinically proven CBT techniques to treat this disorder, with the aid of a series of step by step interventions and self-tests throughout the book. There is also a chapter exploring children and adolescents with OCD, and a chapter aimed for family or friends of affected people.

On the other hand, this book does require a good level of motivation and time, and to work through it, for someone with OCD, it may be a lot of work. However I would still recommend this book to anyone affected by OCD or their caregivers/health professionals as a great starting point in gaining valuable insight and understanding into the condition.
