2012 the year in review: The George Osborne ‘we’re all in this together’ award

As another momentous 12 months for general practice draws to a close, it’s time for Pulse’s end-of-year review. We once again nominate the great and the good for our Christmas awards – and celebrate five true heroes of general practice who have quietly done their bit to champion the profession

GPs have often suspected that the GMC lives in a different world. But this was confirmed beyond all doubt in January when Pulse revealed that the regulator spends approximately £280,000 a year on private medical insurance for almost 500 of its staff. The subsequent outcry over this use of GP fees forced the regulator to put the policy under review.
