The past few months has shown that the shadow health secretary is gearing up for a fight to win back the public’s votes in next year’s general election.

He recently kicked off the inevitable political point-scoring over health with calls to put a halt to NHS privatisation until after the general election.

His pledges that CCG leaders will lose the responsibility for planning the care of the most vulnerable patients and that the 48-hour appointment target will be reintroduced under a Labour government have not gone done well with most GPs.

But our panel pointed to his ‘brave policies’, saying the Labour manifesto will be the one to watch.

It is pretty obvious that the MP for Leigh intends to keep the NHS at the top of everyone’s agenda over the next year.
