The GPC is urging local GP leaders to put pressure on CCGs to ensure they get what the General Practice Forward View promised.
It has written to every LMC with a checklist of schemes required to effectively deliver the GP Forward View – the £2.4bn general practice rescue package pledged to boost GP funding by 14% – at a local level.
CCGs are expected to submit a strategy to NHS England outlining how they plan to go forward with plans outlined in the GP Forward View by 23 December.
Ahead of this, the GPC recommends LMCs discuss the plan their CCG to make sure the the challenges of general practice are addressed.
The checklist highlights key elements to look out for in the plans, including support to move to new business models, funding for extended access, and funding for the training of reception and clerical staff.
The GPC said the plans should set out:
- How access to general practice will be improved;
- How funds for practice transformational support will be created and deployed to support general practice;
- How ring-fenced funding being devolved to CCGs to support the training of care navigators and medical assistants, and stimulate the use of online consultations, will be deployed.
GPC chair Dr Chaand Nagpaul said these funding streams were ‘vital to relieve pressure on practices’.
He said: ‘GPC has produced a checklist of GPFV commitments to enable LMCs and practices to hold CCGs to account, and ensure that the resources in the GPFV are delivered in a timely manner, to frontline staff.’
