Dr Thao Nguyen

Milton Keynes GP Dr Nguyen chairs the Milton Keynes Homeless Health Group, through which she is championing widened access to healthcare. Thanks to her dedication, all 27 practices in the area have committed to a new standardised process for registering and signposting homeless patients.

Similarly, under Dr Nguyen’s leadership, Milton Keynes GP Federation has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring high-level healthcare for veterans and their families. Dr Nguyen’s own practice has now gained the RCGP’s Veteran Friendly GP accreditation, with others set to follow suit.

With a strong belief in the power of social prescribing, Dr Nguyen has gone a step beyond by founding a multidisciplinary health promotion team at her practice, Parkside Medical Centre. Working voluntarily, the team organises events for its 11,000 patients and the wider community. They include a singing group, which puts on concerts at the practice, and a practice-based art course. She is a keen singer herself – she has not only recorded an album, but has also performed numerous shows raising money for local and national charities.

What colleagues say: ‘Dr Nguyen inspires others to make a difference in people’s lives. Everything she works on is with the aim to have an impact on the health and wellbeing of our community’ Women Leaders Milton Keynes
