#GPnews: First two out-of-hours providers rated 'outstanding'
17:20 Note: Medvivo’s Wiltshire service was rated Outstanding by the CQC, just after Cumbria Health on Call’s result was announced, as detailed on the CQC website in April.
10:00 Two social enterprises have become the first GP out-of-hours providers to be awarded a rating of ’outstanding’ by the CQC.
Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) impressed CQC inspectors with its use of telehealth appointments to cut the average patient waiting time for a base or home visit down from 142 minutes to 32 minutes, Urgent Health UK said.
Shropshire Doctors Cooperative (Shropdoc) was praised by the CQC for proactively responding to the needs of patients and helped relieve the burden on secondary care services through providing them with extra clinical support at times of pressure, and also the development of an oncology service.
Dr Simon Abrams, Chair of UHUK, said: ’This is a great result for both CHoC and Shropdoc, and highlights how effective social enterprise models can be in providing well led, responsive and comprehensive out of hours care.
’The out of hours sector has shown immense resilience to severe workforce pressures such as GP shortages and rising clinical indemnity costs among other things.’
