NHS Darlington has become the first PCT to roll out the Summary Care Record to its entire patient population.
The trust has announced that all GP practices have now created records for patients who want them.
This means that over 98% patients in the area now have SCRs for use in emergencies and in out-of-hours care. 1.66% of patients have opted out of having a record.
Dr Mike Guy, Medical Director at County Durham and Darlington PCTs, said: ‘Projects to enable viewing of SCRs have been launched in the region and initial feedback from ward staff and especially clinical pharmacists points to important patient benefits.'
‘The clear message is that the availability of medication information electronically speeds up treatment and allows patients to be assisted sooner and more safely.'
