GMC GP prescribing practice study results

Researchers commissioned by the General Medical Council found errors in the prescriptions for 1 in 20 medicines issued to patients at a selection of general practices in England. The most common errors were missing information on dosage, prescribing an incorrect dosage, and failing to ensure that patients get necessary monitoring, such as blood tests. A greater role for pharmacists and better use of computer systems are among the recommendations from the GMC's report.
