In a patient whose PSA level is only marginally elevated with no obvious cause, the GP should repeat the PSA and attempt to stratify the patient's level of prostate cancer risk by taking into account age, family history, ethnicity, urinary voiding symptoms and DRE findings, alongside the PSA level.
