GPC England chair ‘currently not performing duties’

Exclusive The chair of the BMA’s GP Committee in England is currently not performing duties, including being involved in negotiations, Pulse understands.

At the start of the committee meeting this morning, members of GPC England were informed that Dr Farah Jameel would not be chairing the session as planned to the surprise of GPC England members.

Although Dr Jameel is due to take maternity leave imminently, her absence is not connected to this, or sick leave.

The GPC is set to undertake negotiations with NHS England over a major new contract to start in 2024, but Dr Jameel is not currently involved in the process.

The BMA declined to provide comment.
