The chair of a Government review of the partnership model and a super-practice pioneer are among the top GPs to be awarded in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.
Chair of NICE and former RCGP chair Professor David Haslam has also been awarded a knighthood ‘for services to NHS Leadership’.
Dr Nigel Watson, the chief executive of Wessex LMC and a member of the BMA’s GP Committee, has been awarded an MBE ‘for services to general practice’.
Dr Watson was appointed chair of an independent review of the partnership model earlier this month.
Dr Vish Ratnasuriya, chair of Our Health Partnership in Birmingham, has also been awarded an MBE ‘for services to general practice in the West Midlands’.
Our Health Partnership has been considered the largest GP practice in England with more than 200 partners and 370,000 patients.
Other GP award winners include:
- Professor Paul Little CBE, professor of primary care at University of Southampton, for services to general practice research
- Dr Parameswara Prasad MBE, a GP at Panton Surgery, for services to the community in Holywell
- Dr John Ribchester MBE, GP partner at Whitstable Medical Practice, for services to general practice
- Dr Christopher Stanley MBE, GP partner at Larwood Health Partnership, for services to general practice
GP trainee Dr Nishma Manek, who was one of a team of GP trainees to guest edit an issue of Pulse last year, has been named a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) ‘for services to general practitioner leadership development’.
Dr Manek founded the Next Generation GP programme, which supports young GPs to go into leadership roles.
Other award winners include Roger Kline, co-chair of the GMC’s review into racial bias in the NHS complaints process, who has been awarded an OBE ‘for services to equality in the NHS’.
Chris Ham, chief executive of think tank The King’s Fund, has been awarded a knighthood ‘for services to health policy and management’.
