Pulse shortlisted for two British Society of Magazine Editors awards

Pulse editor Sofia Lind and editor-in-chief Jaimie Kaffash have made the shortlist for this year’s British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) awards.

Sofia has been shortlisted in the ‘new editor of the year’ category, while Jaimie has been nominated for ‘innovator of the year’.

The BSME Awards recognise the work of the best editors, as well as standout art directors, writers and columnists, the best launches and the most eye-catching covers.

Sofia became editor of Pulse in November last year, after more than a decade as reporter, news editor and deputy editor. In her role as editor, she has pushed Pulse to lead the news agenda on the biggest stories in health, with national exclusives and impactful journalism, and our brand-new podcast, Pulse in Focus, which was launched this year.

Jaimie, who was Pulse editor for six years during Covid and overseeing our transition to fully digital, stepped into his new role last year, and was shortlisted for his work incorporating all the research-heavy content we produce, including our recent white paper looking into the GP unemployment crisis.

Gemma Collins, a former deputy editor of Pulse and now director of content and editorial at our publisher Cogora, has also been shortlisted for a BSME award in the ‘editorial director of the year’ category.

BSME chair and Marie Claire editor-in-chief Andrea Thompson said: ‘Congratulations to all the editors, art directors and columnists who are shortlisted for this year’s BSME Awards.

‘The standard of entries this year was particularly high and the judges have really enjoyed reading through the excellent content submitted – from powerful storytelling and investigative journalism to innovative digital art and design.’

The winners will be announced on 27 November.

The nominations follow several awards for the Pulse team this year, including Pulse’s features assistant Maya Dhillon winning a BSME award for her ‘important’ journalism, shining a light on the negative impact of misleading GP headlines.

And earlier this year, Pulse deputy news editor Anna Colivicchi won an award from the Chartered Institute of Journalists (CIoJ) for her investigation into hospital trusts failing to send clinical letters to GPs.
