Prominent primary care researcher Professor Majeed has continued to influence the Government’s agenda with his research showing the poor performance of the NHS Health Check scheme, sparking a review by Public Health England.

His DH-funded evaluation found the scheme had fallen ‘well short’ of performance targets and he echoed the sentiments of many grassroots GPs when he said ‘For the NHS Health Check scheme to be effective, it needs to be better planned and implemented.’

The south London GP, who heads the department of primary care and public health at Imperial College London, is also likely to have a national impact this year with an evaluation of GP-led urgent care centres and leading an antimicrobial research collaborative.

He was nominated for ‘making current research and issues accessible to all via Twitter’ and for his support of doctors in training.

Nominated for ‘making current research and issues accessible to all via Twitter’ and for his support of doctors in training, he says his aim for the next year is to continue to ‘advocate for general practice’, as well as work on a series of articles for the Lancet on how new technology can improve global health, access to healthcare and health outcomes. Is there anything this man cannot do?

Why influencing: Prominent academic shaping Government policies
