Nearly half of multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferers have seen their condition deteriorate after undergoing stressful health checks for a benefits assessment, the Guardian reports.
A survey by the MS Society found that 48% of respondents had experienced a relapse or otherwise had their health damaged by undergoing assessment for Employment Support Allowance.Over a third said the same of Personal Independence Payment assessment.
Chief executive Michelle Mitchell said: ‘Having MS is enough; it should not be made harder by a welfare system that doesn’t make sense for people living with the condition.’
The Independent reports a heavily caveated American study which found adult marijuana users could ‘potentially’ be more likely to develop prediabetes, and have poor sugar control that could lead to type 2 diabetes.
The study, in the journal Diabetologia, found adults who currently use marijuana were 65% more likely to have ‘poor sugar control’ than an adult who had never used the drug. Those who had previously used the drug but had since stopped were 49% more likely to have poor control.
This stands in contrast to previous studies on the impact of marijuana use and metabolic health.
