The big news today is a report published on the Government's policies on alcohol from the House of Commons Health Committee. The report calls for a rise in taxes on spirits and a price limit on alcoholic drinks.
The Sun calls it a ‘damning' report that accuses the Government of being 'too close' to the drinks industry.
Up to 10,000 lives a year could be saved if patients sought advice from their GP earlier , researchers are claiming. Experts from the School of Pharmacy say that the prevailing culture which encourages patients ‘not to bother health professionals unnecessarily' has to be changed.
The Times newspaper covers concerns that the introduction of the Personal Care at Home bill for the elderly will put essential services at risk. It gives examples from several areas where councils have been forced to make swingeing cuts in other services, such as children's services, leisure facilities and schools.
A young widow has given birth to ‘miracle twins' after her husband died from Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The Daily Mail reports their late father froze his sperm before beginning chemotherapy and died at the age of 22.
The Daily Mail is also full of helpful hints on home-brewed cures today. The newspaper has articles saying a combination of vinegar and honey can cure arthritis and recommends a new strawberry milkshake (packed full of brain nutrients…mmm) to treat Alzheimers.
The best to lose weight is to exercise with your partner, according to the Daily Telegraph. It says that exercising à deux is ‘a must for A-list power couples' - and helpfully offers the contact details for a his ‘n' hers personal trainer so you can too.
