A GP and his wife are raising money through song for a charity to support research into lymphoma, after losing a relative to the disease last year.
Dr Ike Nnene, a GP from Norwich, and his wife Linda, a teacher, are hosting and performing in a gospel music event to remember their sister-in-law who died from lymphoma in November 2016 at the age of 35.
Uche Abanulo was first diagnosed in July 2016 and, although she initially showed signs that she was responding to treatment, she died four months later leaving behind a husband and three children aged five, six and seven years old.
In her memory Dr Nnene and his wife are holding a gospel music concert on 19 August to raise awareness of the disease.
They have also launched a fundraising campaign for the charity Bloodwise UK, which supports research into lymphoma and leukaemia, and Nelson’s Journey, a Norfolk-based charity that provides support for families with children where a parent has passed away.
The couple said: ‘Uche was such a loving, giving person and we are sure she would have wanted us to use whatever means at our disposal to do good for others in her name.’
The concert is being held at The Blake Studio Norwich School, in the grounds of the Norwich Cathedral, with tickets available here.
