GPs swap stethoscopes for running shoes to complete the London Marathon

Several GPs were among the 38,000 runners to take part in the London Marathon at the weekend.

Dr Mike Ingrams, a GP in Radlett ran his 16th London Marathon (his 40th marathon in total) in 4 hours, 12 minutes and 16 seconds to raise money for Crisis.

Dr Libby Bohemen, a GP in Cardiff, is also an experienced runner – this weekend’s event in London was her 17th marathon. She had thought her running days were behind her last year when her hamstring was ‘hanging on by a thread’ according to the Telegraph but after an operation she was able to run again.

Dr Michele Wall, a GP in Colchester, proudly displayed her medal on Twitter – she ran for Macmillan.

Dr Susan Taheri, a GP in Devon, ran the marathon for Breast Cancer Care for her friend and former colleague Petrina Trueman ‘who has found BCC’s support invaluable as she continues her own battle with secondary breast cancer’. Dr Simon Vavasour, a GP in Norfolk, also ran to support a breast cancer charity, raising money for Breast Cancer Now.

Several GPs ran for family members: Dr Simon Phillips, a GP from Dorchester, ran for Alzheimer’s UK in aid of his father and Dr Theshanka Amarasinghe, a GP in Milton Keynes, ran her first marathon for Parkinson’s UK after her mother, a retired doctor, was diagnosed with the disease.

Dr Kaiser Munir, from Chesham, ran for Action on Hearing Loss, which has helped his older sister, and Dr Jenny Wilson, a GP in Bedford, ran for Guide Dogs after being inspired after by meeting someone who couldn’t find a new guide dog after her old one retired.
