Include lung health checks in vascular screening, experts urge

By Nigel Praities

The British Lung Foundation is calling for a simple lung health check to be included in the NHS Health Checks programme.

In its manifesto for the general election, the charity says there should be a 'new deal' for patients with lung disease and that regular checks would ensure COPD is diagnosed earlier.

Dame Helena Shovelton, Chief Executive of the British Lung Foundation said: 'We urge as many politicians as possible to show their support for the British Lung Foundation's Manifesto.'

'Over eight million people are affected by lung disease in the UK and it is the second biggest killer so it is vital that the next Government adopts these challenges to ensure treatment and care of people affected by lung disease is improved,' she said.
