Profile: Dr Maureen Baker

Her regular email bulletins to GPs cemented her status as a household name. She was also a special clinical adviser to the National Patient Safety Agency from 2002 to 2007.

Dr Baker has been a GP since 1985 and currently practises in Lincoln. She has substantial leadership experience within the RCGP where she served as honorary secretary from 1999-2009. She is currently a member of the RCGP Trustee Board, a nationally elected member of college council. She also retains interest in emergency planning as RCGP lead for emergency planning and preparedness.

She is also currently clinical director for patient safety at the Health and Social Care Information Centre

Dr Baker received a CBE for services to medicine in 2004 and added to her honours in 2009 with the RCGP Foundation Council Award for meritorious services to general practice.

She has also had an illustrious academic career and has contributed to over 50 journal and book publications.
