RCGP strikes deal to share headquarters with social workers

The RCGP has announced it will share its new headquarters in central London with the College of Social Work as it proceeds with its cost-cutting drive.

The college said the independent membership organisation for social workers was relocating from its current premises, to the RCGP’s headquarters at 30 Euston Square in central London.

Pulse revealed last month that the college was planning to save £620,000 a year, by renting out a floor of its new headquarters to a ‘health-related professional body’ and making several senior staff redundant.

An RCGP statement said: ‘As well as providing a new opportunity for co-working, the move fits well with the RCGP’s aspiration to be the centre for global primary care.

‘The prime location of 30 Euston Square and its proximity to the British Medical Association, The Wellcome Trust, and other related organisations is already creating a “health hub” and raising awareness of the work being done to improve and integrate patient care.”

RCGP chair, Dr Clare Gerada, said: ‘GPs are at the interface between health and social care so we are delighted to be welcoming the College of Social Work to our premises.

‘We hope it will provide further opportunities for us to blur the boundaries between primary, secondary and social care to create truly integrated services for our patients and service users.’

Jo Cleary, chair of the College of Social Work said: ‘We are delighted to be moving in with the RCGP. We are both professional colleges and have a shared interest in supporting and promoting our respective professions.

‘At the College of Social Work we see this as a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with the RCGP and contribute to the development of fully integrated health and social care across the country. We are very much looking forward to exploring opportunities for sharing expertise.’
