GP contract is already a joke

The King's Fund's Dr Anna Dixon's idea that the GP contract should be radically reformed is not quite as awful as it sounds.

'Tear up' GP contract, advisory body urges

I agree that we should not be paid twice for the same work – but presumably she would have no problem with us being paid once for much of the unpaid work dumped on us in ever-increasing amounts from secondary care.

Let's face it – the contract is a bit of a joke anyway. It has effectively been torn up repeatedly since its inception by successive Labour governments, which have unilaterally imposed contract variations on us without GPs having any say in the matter. Sure, the GPC bleateth a little, but any Government minister with even a resemblance of a notochord knows full well that is all it will ever do.

Contract? What contract?
