I was interested to read your recent front-page article about GP premises (‘GP premises left to crumble as PCTs scrap upgrades‘).
We are in the process of trying to move into new premises that the GPs are funding themselves, asking the PCT only for a notional rent based on their existing premises.
The response from the PCT is that they would need to accept a 10-year abatement of notional rent – yet the PCT is building its own project, costing more than £5m, in the same area to accommodate one GP practice of the same list size.
This makes no sense and seems to be a complete waste of public money that could be better spent on the direct needs of our patients.
