70% decrease in rotavirus cases following GP-led campaign

Following a GP-led vaccination campaign, laboratory-confirmed rotavirus cases are down from an average of 7,500 to approximately 2,195 says Public Health England (PHE).

For infants under the age of four months, vaccination rates reached 93% for the first dose of Rotarix, and 88% for the second.

PHE have said that the decrease is ‘likely to be associated with the introduction of the oral vaccine in July 2013’.
