Zostavax orders being capped due to ‘temporary delay’ with vaccine supply

The vaccine that is to be used for the shingles immunisation programme in older people are being capped at five doses per order, says Public Health England.

The body issued a issued a statement saying that due to a ‘current temporary delay’ with the supply of Zostavax into the UK, the manufacturer is restricting orders.

The statement says that they do not expect the supply issue to affect the immunisation programme in all 70 and 79 year olds and advises that GPs continue to administer the shingles vaccine alongside the flu vaccine.

It says: ‘A large quantity of vaccine has already been distributed throughout the UK to start the programme. We do not expect this temporary supply issue to affect the overall programme to immunise all 70- and 79-year-olds who request the vaccination over the forthcoming year.’
