Unwanted Christmas present of the year

GMC chief executive Niall Dickson messed up his naughty and nice lists this year, as the regulator accidentally sent an unwanted Christmas card to more than 200 GPs and other doctors.

Due to a mysterious ‘clerical error', the unfortunate recipients started December with a letter informing them they had been investigated by the GMC over their fitness to practise in 2010 – even though they hadn't.

‘I am very sorry for the upset this may have caused,' Mr Dickson said. GPs were left wondering if saying sorry would be enough to get them off the hook the next time the GMC comes calling.
