I do look forward to Dr Copperfield's comments - very funny & often true! As a pharmacist who has done 1500+ mur's I can honestly say that they have a limited role and are of limited value - occasionally they are of benefit to patient's. Perhaps the DOH should have linked mur's to gp's QOF point then we might have a more valuable mur eg to be done in advance of patient's annual medication review at gp's & for certain patient's who's medication has changed eg post discharge from hospital? Any comments welcome! GARY BROWN

when our pharmacists started to do MURs, we had to buy a bigger shredder to accommodate the vast amount of paper and recycle it properly ulrich pfeiffer

I'm with Gary, and it sounds like Dr Copperfield needs a holiday - or a statin. emoticon Michael Williams

just a bit more feedback re mur's done by pharmacists - i had a little chat with an elderly lady (mur) on numerous medications for copd, heart failure, glaucoma, arthritis who had initially been prescribed salbutamol mdi prn via spacer device - this she couldn't get on with, so her script was changed to salamol easibreathe.....only problem is that no one had actually stopped to check if she could use this device properly! The lady was doing everything correctly ie shaking the inhaler etc etc (she demonstrated this to me) BUT she could not inhale with sufficient force to trigger the inhaler to deliver it's dose...checking the PMR (PHARMACY MEDICATION RECORDS) revealed she had been dispensed about 6 salamol easibreathes over the last 6 months - of no therapeutic benefit to her & a waste of NHS money - would this have been picked up elsewhere? Her gp hadn't. Her COPD nurses hadn't? Will my MUR improve this ladies treatment......not really - was it beneficial to her...we shall see - should MUR's be integrated in to her treatment plan - my answer = YES
any one elses answers = ..........?
