Copperfield's practice doesn't do God, but he suspects a vague lack of religious conviction might be just what the punters are after

We may think that sustaining neck of femur fracture may be end of this world for her but she could have been walking the narrow path reaching for Glory. God's ways are mysterious and beyond our comprehension ! Synthia Herbert

Come on then, when does the world end? Apparently, according to Harold Camping, despite the first few readings the Good Lord has entered the 'Listening' phase and results are due later in the year! Patient Eye View (from NHS Employee)

If only... Would love to see more practices with a 'We don't believe in supernatural entities here' banner. GPs see more than most what happens to people coming to the end of their lives, who are in the hands of what is supposedly a loving, caring deity who does nothing to alleviate their suffering - that is left to the doctor. I am surprised about the dictatorship of democracy in the UK. I’m a GP in the Netherlands for over 21 yrs. now, big and busy rural practice, from doing home deliveries to palliative care, also occasionally locums in the UK. Yes, I’m a GP and also a Christian. No beard, no sandals, just moustache. Not a Christian practice, but all kinds of people attending our practice. Because the first thing a Christian GP should do is not just talking but listening, working conscientiously and making the best of his job. As the Bible says (James 2:18): “I will shew thee my faith by my works.” That’s why people choose our practice. But sometimes when patients are worrying about things like what’s the sense of their life now, or when they are terminally ill and in spiritual distress, it has value when you are not only able to talk about physical and mental stuff, but also have a word with them about their spiritual concerns. I’m not taking a pastor’s place and not forcing or persuading people at all, but sometimes such a discussion proves to be more effective than a couple of diazepam tablets. That’s at least my experience being a MD for over 25 years. - Teunis Dorresteijn
