Nearly 96% of people aged 75-79 have had their Covid-19 vaccine in the UK, the health secretary announced today.
In a Covid update to the House of Commons on Tuesday afternoon, where he announced tough new border measures to control variants, Mr Hancock revealed the uptake in various age groups so far.
As 12.2 million – or one-in-four people – have now had their first dose of a Covid vaccine, Mr Hancock said this included:
- 91.4% of people aged 80 and above;
- 95.9% of people aged 75-79; and
- 77.2% of those aged aged 70-74, who were the most recent group to have been invited and with the number quickly growing.
In addition, the NHS has vaccinated 93.5% of eligible care home residents.
The news comes as the Government had last week said all eligible care home residents had been offered a vaccine, although it added some people had not been reached due to local Covid outbreaks.
The Government had set a target for all care home residents to be vaccinated by 31 January, and all patients the first four JCVI prioritisation cohorts to have their jab by 15 February.
And, as of yesterday, people within cohorts 1-4 – including everyone over 70; clinically extremely vulnerable; and health and social care workers have been asked to contact the NHS if they have not yet had their vaccination.
Eligible people should make a booking via the national vaccination booking site in the first instance or, if they don’t find any suitable appointments, call their GP, the Government said.
