Uncovering NHS Health Check rationing; and are SGLT-2s the new statins?

The new episode of Pulse in Focus: The Podcast for GPs is now live and available on all podcast platforms.

Senior journalist Maya Dhillon talks to Pulse deputy news editor Anna Colivicchi about her recent investigation into the NHS Health Check programme, looking into how local authorities are capping the number of reimbursable checks GP practices can do, and how this is affecting patient care.

Anna also discusses how ‘useful’ the prevention programme is, and what GPs actually think about it.

And clinical editor Caroline Price is joined by GP and editorial adviser Dr Keith Hopcroft to discuss the key headlines from NICE’s final type 2 diabetes guidance, rubberstamped and released last week.

The pair look at the shift away from glycaemic ‘obsession’ towards prevention of cardiovascular and renal disease; tailoring treatment to comorbidities; and the recommendation that most people with type 2 diabetes should now be offered metformin along with an SGLT-2 inhibitor from the start of treatment.

This episode was produced by Maya Dhillon and Mollie Fraser-Andrews.
