Government adviser on neighbourhood health Sir John Oldham to speak at GP conference

GP and former Government adviser Sir John Oldham has joined the speaker line-up for a new conference bringing together GPs and community pharmacists next month.

Sir John will deliver the closing plenary on ‘real neighbourhood health’ at the inaugural Community Pharmacy and General Practice Conference, co-hosted by Pulse publisher Cogora and the National Pharmacy Association (NPA).

The retired GP most recently served as strategic adviser to the health secretary between March 2025 and March 2026, advising on the Government’s shift towards neighbourhood health models.

He previously served as the Department of Health’s clinical lead for quality and productivity, working on the NHS Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) programme.

The free, CPD-accredited conference will take place in Birmingham on 21-22 June and is expected to bring together around 1,000 delegates, including GPs, practice managers, community pharmacists, nurses, PCN leaders and ICB representatives.

The event will focus on how primary care teams can work together to deliver more integrated neighbourhood care as part of the Government’s 10-year health plan.

Other confirmed speakers include RCGP chair Victoria Tzortziou Brown; former RCGP president and BMA GP Committee chair Dr Richard Vautrey; and Shanker Vijay, GP lead for digital transformation at NHS England.

The programme will also include a GP Pharmacy in Focus session with the Primary Care Pharmacy Association, an NPA Members’ Forum and a dedicated networking zone running across both days.

Worth 10 CPD points, the Community Pharmacy and General Practice Conference is free to attend for GPs.

GPs can register for free and find out more about the agenda via the conference website.

Can someone ask him what the point is? Can someone ask him also why Streeting has announced the biggest reorganisation in primary care and then skulked off in to the shadows to protect his own political career?
