Ex-GPC Wales chair Dr David Bailey will take on the role as deputy after being appointed by Dr Charlotte Jones.
The appointment marks a switch of roles for Dr Bailey and Dr Jones after Dr Jones, who served as Dr Bailey’s deputy, succeeded him in the Welsh chair role last week.
Dr Bailey, a GP in Caerphilly in Wales, has has made a name for himself within GP politics by fighting the BMA’s battle over pensions as deputy chair and senior GP on its pensions committee.
Earlier this year, his negotiating secured an agreed GP contract settlement between Welsh GPs and the Welsh Government which significantly ameliorated the UK-wide terms that were on the table.
Dr Jones said: ‘David’s experience of having held the chair’s role - and the UK perspective from being on UK team - for six years means that when I am engaged in the UK work, Welsh GPs can have full confidence that Welsh issues continue to be taken forward seamlessly and without interruption.
