GP practices had to close after police learned of ‘threat’

Three GP surgeries in North Lincolnshire had to suddenly close last week after the police alerted them of a ‘threat’.

Trent View Medical Practice, which runs three sites in Skippingdale, Keadby and Crowle, was told by Humberside Police on Friday that the force had received ‘intelligence of a threat’ concerning the practices.

It said that the details of the threat ‘were non-specific regarding location’ so for safety reasons Trent View Medical Practice decided to close all three sites immediately.

Practice manager Michelle Slimm said that the practices were ‘asked not to give any details or reason for the immediate closure’ other than to indicate ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

She added that following a ‘thorough’ assessment and review of the situation, all three branches were reopened this morning.

Ms Slimm said: ‘The situation highlights the real issues faced by frontline NHS workers on a day-to-day basis and the implications for patients.

‘The team will endeavour to rearrange any cancelled appointments because of the emergency closure as soon as practicable.

‘We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to return to normal and be assured the practice continues to be committed to providing a high standard of primary care services at all locations.’

A spokesperson for Humberside Police told Pulse: ‘We received reports of a concern for safety at around 1.30pm on Friday 19 April in relation to Trent View Medical Practice in North Lincolnshire.

‘As a precaution, the practice made the decision to close their three practices.’

Last year, Pulse reported that two GP practices in Wiltshire were forced to temporary close due to a bomb threat.
