Simon Burns is the minister with responsibility for legislation, NHS performance, health services reconfiguration and NHS Connecting for Health, to name just a few of the controversial areas that sit within his remit.

The Conservative MP for Chelmsford is a familiar face in Westminster, having begun his political career in 1987, and he served as shadow health minister between 2001 and 2005. It is his experience as party whip which may come in equally handy though, as he helps Andrew Lansley keep GPs and MPs in line as the Government steers the health bill through Parliament.
