16 – Dr Nigel Watson

Dr Nigel Watson, chair of the GPC's commissioning and service development subcommittee and a GP in the New Forest, has been thrust into the limelight over the past 12 months after coming ninth in our up-and-coming list last year.

Last year, 9th, up-and-coming

He was handed the task of analysing the GP commissioning plans in fine detail as the BMA prepared its response, and has helped draw up strategy on contentious issues such as out-of-hours and Darzi centres.

His role as chief executive of one of the larger local medical committees, Wessex LMCs, also gives him an excellent overview of grassroots issues. One to watch, with some tipping him as a future BMA chair.
