Dr Mike Bewick is chair of the RCGP's assessment committee, overseeing the college's examination process for doctors and thus playing a hugely important role in the development of trainee doctors.
He has helped the college deal with the fallout from the recent slump in CSA pass rates.
He is also medical director of NHS Cumbria, and a leading player in driving forward GP commissioning.
