Dr Amy Small

Described by our panel as a ‘bright and active young GPC member who is likely to have a big medico-political future’, Dr Amy Small is a dedicated GP who says she likes to ‘stand up for doctors, patients and the NHS’.

Her high spot of the past year was the positive feedback from peers she received for publicising the issue of GP burnout.

‘I have since tried to get the message out there that it’s not just older doctors or doctors with families that are struggling with our workload – we ALL are.’

Dr Small now has the opportunity to meet the Scottish health minister to discuss GP access and issues around workload. She also is on the GPC’s Education, Training and Workforce subcommittee for this coming year where she hopes ‘to address the issue of the looming workforce crisis’.

She says: ‘I would like to advise to my younger colleagues entering the profession to pace themselves. They should not be in a rush to step up the ladder and should make the most of getting experience in every way shape or form of general practice.’
