Dr Chris Ferdinand found fame this year in the Channel 5 documentary GPs: Behind Closed Doors.
When TV crews followed day-to-day life in his surgery in Lewisham, south London, Dr Ferdinand was praised by the profession for showing a ‘realistic view’ of an inner-city practice. As one colleague put it, Dr Ferdinand – also known as Dr Ferdy – ‘pushed boundaries to improve the perception of general practice’.
Dr Ferdinand says that taking part in the programme has undoubtedly been a highlight of his year and he was proud to celebrate what GPs do.
‘This was an opportunity to showcase to the public the wonderful things that our profession does for our patients and how hard we all work,’ he says.
‘My colleagues and the practice team joined me in wanting to show the good things that GP teams do, and the challenges that we face to keep the practice running day after day.’
Dr Ferdinand is also chair of the RCGP London AiT/ First 5.
